SIGGRAPH 2003 Brings 24,332 To San Diego for Annual Conference & Exhibition; Attendees Crowd Exhibit Floor and Sessions

 

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2003--SIGGRAPH 2003, the 30th conference on computer graphics and interactive techniques brought a total of 24,332 professionals from 77 countries to San Diego for the annual conference and exhibition 27-31 July 2003. A total of 240 exhibiting companies exhibited in 68,000 net square feet of space.

SIGGRAPH 2003 Computer Animation Festival Awards

The Computer Animation Festival jury selected "ETERNAL GAZE," produced by Sam Chen, as the Best Animated Short and "TIM TOM," produced by Supinfocom/One Plus One, for Jury Honors. "ETERNAL GAZE" is a poignant story of the creative life of sculptor Alberto Giacometti. The piece was selected because although it is entirely computer generated, that fact is quickly lost due to the powerful story. "TIM TOM" is the tale of two fantastical characters, Tim and Tom, who want to meet but are hindered by their creator, a giant omnipotent hand. The piece was selected for its creativity expression encompassing all that is inherent in the art of animation versus live-action.

ACM SIGGRAPH Announces Award Winners

ACM SIGGRAPH presented three awards at the conference to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to the computer graphics community. Pat Hanrahan, Stanford University, received the Steven Anson Coons Award for his leadership in rendering algorithms, graphics architectures and systems, and new visualization methods for computer graphics. Peter Schroder, California Institute of Technology, was the 2003 Computer Graphics Achievement Award recipient. Schroder was selected for the award to recognize his contributions to the newly emerging area of 3D geometry processing. Mathieu Desbrun, University of Southern California, received the Significant New Researcher Award for his original contributions to deformable models and animation.

Los Angeles Welcomes SIGGRAPH 2004

SIGGRAPH 2004, the 31th International Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, will be held in the Los Angeles Convention Center, 8-12 August 2004 in Los Angeles, California.
