Pricing your work as a freelance 3D Artist: finding the right balance.

As a freelance 3D artist, determining the right price per image can be challenging. Let's explore how to navigate this process, particularly for solo freelancers.

First and foremost, it is important to be honest with yourself and analyze your strengths and weaknesses (even though it can be difficult at times).

It's essential to recognize that pricing can vary depending on the project's nature and workflow. Some artists may prefer to charge per square meter, especially when collaborating with interior designers. However, from my perspective, pricing per image tends to be more accurate.

But how do you calculate the right price, especially if you lack experience or a deep understanding of the 3D market?
  1. Understand & the project scope: start by fully understanding what the project entails. How complex is it? How many models do you need to create? Are there any special requests?
  2. Calculate your time: estimate the time and resources required for modeling, texturing, rendering, and potential revisions. Remember to include expenses for software, and any necessary model orders.
  3. Account for revisions and changes: plan for revisions and changes along the way. Factor in additional costs if the client requests more revisions than initially agreed upon. (In some cases, you could include a set number of revisions in the overall price to account for potential changes).
  4. Consider long-term relationships: keep in mind the potential for ongoing work with clients. Offering competitive rates upfront can foster repeat business and referrals.
  5. Communicate clearly: that is the base. Be ensure transparency by clearly communicating your pricing structure and any additional fees upfront. This builds trust and minimizes misunderstandings.
  6. Be flexible: while it's important to establish fair pricing, be open to negotiation, particularly for larger or long-term projects. Flexibility can help you secure contracts and build positive client relationships.
  7. Tax payments. Of course, taxes are also part of the equation. Using the points discussed above, you can set a minimum price for your services. Now, let's consider the expenses for tax payments
  8. Irresponsive customer delays.

Implement these strategies to ensure your pricing is competitive, profitable, and fair for both you and your clients. Start today and let`s your 3D business flourish!
