Thankful, Impactful, and Goodbye...

2021 should’ve been a far better year compared to 2020 for us as a leading Architectural Visualization Studio in Indonesia, which is true this year’s income rose through the roof. Then again it’ll be too mainstream if we only talked about the successes of a company. Having a showreel every year seems boring too, even though its usable for the next, I want to share with you a different perspective of our (2G Studio, Academy, and myself) 2021.

Well it is, 2021 was a far better year than 2020, but not just because of the rise in income but also because of our team building, activities, and a lot of lessons learnt the hard way. 2021 started off rocky as lots of artists that we taught and invested in resigned and one of them, one that we trusted was caught doing business inside a business. This hurt, but opened our eyes as we learnt that there are flaws in our system.

The term “We reap what we sow” came to a reality as when we lost a lot of artists we also gained lots of high quality artists from 2G Academy’s students and AVIS.ID’s movement. They aren’t high quality in terms of skills, but attitude. Skills are learnt, but what we can't learn is attitude. With these new members the office felt more lively and active. Them feeling thankful as their financial situation is saved and us being thankful we have them cause everything has been better ever since.

They taught me how to be THANKFUL. This simple yet powerful action that’s the actual foundation of everything in life is one people often miss out on. To be thankful is such a blessed state of mind to be in as you are let go of all the worries, doubts, and negativity you are bearing.

Then we shot “Bali Kembali” , our attempt to help Bali recover from the catastrophic financial impact from the pandemic. Shooting this was hard and made us learn a lot about videography, teamwork on field, and communication. The first day we started this project turned out to be the day I also discovered that my father caught covid.

This hurt me in a way that has never happened before as the strong and resilient figure my father is was left weak and bedridden. I don’t really cry, but there I cried, the pain I felt was unbearable especially knowing that my father is sick and we’re islands apart with all these conditions prohibiting me from visiting him. My days were filled with fear and darkness, on top of that we must still proceed with shooting the video. 

One day the call came informing me that we lost him, it felt as if my reason to fight was taken away. I had no energy to continue shooting for the last day but thankfully the team pulled through and from this project I get to meet lots of new and kind people. Credits to Alfy Reff creator of “Beauty of Bali” who even went as far as selling his car to fund his project.  

After losing my father I was in a really bad place mentally, but then the show must go on and I started doing instagram lives again as well as online reviews. Having these students and remembering that their work featured on best of week board on CGArchitect, because of what I’ve been doing opened my eyes and gave me purpose again. That was when I was able to start picking up the pieces, and gave me the realisation that life isn’t just about work and made me realise how precious time is. That is all why 2021 was a very tough year for me.

I'm sure that 2022 will be a better year as long as we can come together and improve this industry especially in Indonesia. This time I’m not alone, I’m surrounded by amazing people who also want to contribute. We hope that with that we can have a more positive community that pushes each other.

For the people who watches this video I give you my thanks because you all are the reason I can stand again and I assure you that in 2022 both 2G Studio and Academy will contribute even more. I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year. 

And for you guys who are overseas, If you only travel once a year please think of Bali next time.
