So what is fabulous to you? Some ornately done dresser and bed with loads of antique charm? Well, we would agree with you, but what we are discussing today is the other fabulousness. The ‘fabulous’ that breathes simplicity, convenience and easy comfort. Ah, the simple pleasures of life! So what makes a bedroom fabulous for us?
It’s not a king size bed fit for a royal that we are wishing for. We are just asking for a nice bed with a nicer mattress. So all of you who want to have that fabulous bedroom, invest in a good quality mattress for you bed. is very subjective, while some like it soft and fluffy some prefer it a little harder. However, the general rule goes, for choosing a mattress that provides you maximize comfort, go for the good old Goldilocks way- neither too hard and not too soft.
A nice firm bed, a great mattress and some cushy pillows with fresh air blowing in and you will wake up in heaven every morning.
Wired bins, wicker baskets, hangers, racks and drawers make a wonderful closet.
Whether you are getting one of those super organized IKEA closets or designing a built-in yourself, a well-made closet is an asset. More so if you are a bag and clothes person like me.
Spacious drawers, enough hanging space and the right hangers for the right clothes (check out ) make a great closet.
Sometimes a closet also doubles as a dresser especially if it is a walk-in closet. Reach-in closets can also function as mini-dresser (with mirror and pull-out drawers for cosmetics).
I never underestimate my floor and my feet. The first thing I step on in the morning is my bedroom floor, and so it obviously has a big influence on how my day starts.
While some might prefer rugs and carpeted floors, I am a total wood person. Eucalyptus hardwood makes the cut for me. What’s great is, it is not just gorgeous but quite economic as well. Eucalyptus trees grow in abundance and hence it becomes a budget and environment friendly choice.
If you want to opt for something uniquely fabulous beyond carpets and wood, you could also opt for concrete or clay-tile flooring. is an essential for a great bedroom.
Nobody wants a dark bedroom right. But what is the right amount of light for a bedroom. Well obviously it is very subjective, but there are certain essentials of a well-lit room. My room is my little world, my haven when I am just so dull and down. I totally rely on it to bring the cheer back in my life and the spring back in my step. So good lighting is all about positivity to me.
Some amount of sunlight always keeps the mood of the room upbeat for me. Big windows are great for letting the sunlight flow in, however if your bedroom is not blessed with ample windows for sunlight, make the best use of what you have.
Always position your bed to maximize the view and light outside. Use sheer curtains if your room does not receive too much natural light. These light curtains give the room a lighted and dreamy feeling.
Now because we spend such a large chunk of our lives in our bedroom, it is essential to get the lighting right.
Overhead lighting is a common feature in most bedrooms, but make sure it is not too bright as it can feel really harsh. Have lamps and scone lighting as well to alternate with wall and overhead lighting or complement them.
While I don’t like a dark bedroom, I definitely like the soft, cozy lights when I am tucking myself in my bed for some night-time reading. The best way to achieve this, have dimmers in all your lights, so that you can vary their brightness according to your requirement.
Now reading brings me to another fabulous part of my bedroom, my bookcase. Your bedroom is a reflection, an extension of you. So it should always have one corner at least devoted to what you like the best. Books, music, painting, movies whatever you like.
If its music, you can always have one of those lovely record-players in your room to add that old-world charm or a contemporary music system with some great bass.
I know of movie-lovers’ bedrooms who have a television and the greatest movies all stacked up in their own room really nicely.
Now that is what I would call relaxing and fabulous in every sense! Pick up a great book or watch a movie you love in the luxury of your bed.
Yellow and orange flowers make this room vibrant and colorful, notice how the flowers are picked in sync with the pillow covers.
Cities are great places to live, with all the accessibility and variety in lifestyle options they offer. But if you are like me and are always craving for that hint and fragrance of the countryside, you have to transport some greenery of the meadows to your own bedroom to really be happy.
An easy way to do it, evoke a lot of green and aqua in your bedroom. Green rugs, pillows paired with brown-wood or white furniture adds a lot of serenity to the bedroom and also imitates the classic cottage-style bedroom we all just love.
Fresh flowers are a must ingredient for communion with nature as well as adding beauty and freshness to the bedroom. Ensure there are always some flowers blooming in your room. You need to just splurge once a week (most flowers stay fine for a week).
Another trick is to use wood grain prints and floral motifs on your duvet covers, cushions etc. to bring the appeal of the wilderness to your own bedroom.
Teak and Oak dressers, twisted tree roots as side table décor or wall-piece or and lamps with wooden base are also a great way to enhance the nature’s bounty in your room.
Finally, having potted green plants in your bedroom is a great way to be close to nature. Not only are they air purifiers but also function as beautiful show pieces that add a whole new texture to your room.
