I use Maya and Mental Ray, as for no ceiling fixtures , again the client asked for them to be left out. They didn't like the pattern. The darkness around the edges is a post effect from the camera lense.

Alan, I was referring to the lack of light bouncing within your scene. It seems as if there was no global illumination used. You see how the circular light patterns on the floor shine almost as if it were flashlights just beaming down from the ceiling? Also, those same lights reflecting on the floor don't have any ceiling fixtures to show where they are coming from. The ceiling itself is dark especially around the edges. The image has great potential, only the lighting needs some attention. What software did you use?

Preference really, the idea was to convey more of a hotel lounge area feel to it. The bar in the lower section was done the same. Also without being able to see how your monitor views the image hard for me to tell. I have five monitors here and I have no issues with the scene. It was printed at 30 by 72 inches by the architect and it held up. I hope I was able to answer your question??
