Most of my clients do not appreciate it when I showcase my skills using their stores.
That is why I sometimes browse the internet for inspirational retail, or interior design photographs and attempt to mimic the general atmosphere.
In this case it is a combination of a recently opened New York store and a floor layout of a store, that I worked on in the past.
This is one of the first projects, where I have started to do in Iray and I am really starting to appreciate it.
I used to do everything in Mental Ray, but throughout the years I got more and more frustrated by the unpredictability of the final render-times.
Especially with highly detailed large interiors, that needed to be rendered in high-res on short notice, I often got in trouble and exceeded the deadline.
When you have not time to do test renders, there is just no way to predict how long it would take before all the little black blocks were filled.
Sometimes there where just unexpected things in the file (like a small glass item) that caused exceptionally long render-times.
This problem is now completely solved.
You need to invest in a good graphics-card, but the render-times are a lot more predictable.
It does not recognize some of the old 3dsMax materials and sometimes you have to find some work-around's to achieve a certain effect, but you have that with any render solution.
