Whoa! Amazing! Perfect for me.
Thanks guys :) Craig - I think it took around 3 weeks from start to finish but I can't remember exactly! Possibly longer. There were quite a few rounds of comments and design changes as we went along but the actual production time wasn't too long at all. The majority of the time was spent in Pflow getting the landscaping working. Cheers,
Great, looks beautifull.
Cool Very nice !!
Awesome work Alex! Just out of interest, how long did it take you start to finish? I'd love to learn more about the PF stuff if you ever have time :)
Hi Aaron. Many thanks for the kind words! The terrain is a mixture of a very rough 3D model, a few google maps stitched together and some hand-painted elements (mainly painting out existing buildings). And it's pretty accurate to the actual site. Cheers!
Really awesome image. Is your terrain map, basically the dirt-sand, an aerial photo? If so, is it an aerial photo of the actual site for the project? Or is it conceptual? Thanks, Aaron
A lot of details, giant work, great result !!! Congratulations !!!
Not sure how I missed this here, but awesome to see this piece again! Thanks a lot for the 'making of' steps you posted too, it helped in dissecting how such images are put together :) How is Hayes Davidson as a workplace? I'll be jumping to London soon and need to start looking for places to apply to and HD looks like a wicked place to be a part of.
Hi tom! Cheers for the kind words. Couldn't comment on HD now to be honest as it's been many years since I was there and a lot appears to have changed their since then. Wherever you end up working hope it works for you! Cheers,

wow, thanks for the kind words Michael. much appreciated!
I have a very cool memory of this drawing. I was visiting Hayes Davidson looking for a job (I got an offer) And I was a bit awestruck with the whole studio. Its in the middle of London and its big and airy (and kinda smelled like a group of guys was farting too much, but thats a sidenote) Anyhow.. It was a really nice summerday and I came in for the interview. And I remember seeing someone (presumably Mr. York) working on this killer image (The one in question) And I though "If I get a job here, I'm gonna be THAT good!" hehe.. never forgot that image. Its beautiful.

ciao ragazzi Complimentoni per l immagine
Hi Carlos, Thanks very much! No netrender or DBR was used for this, or proxies. I just used PFlow to generate all the instances of the trees - they're just simple rectangles with one pass set to face the camera (render pass) and one pass set to face the sunlight system (shadow pass). Was very very efficient. Considering the distance from camera I think the trees hold up well, so there was no need for proper geometry/proxies etc. Btw I made I think 10 variations of each tree map/texture so they don't all look the same, and then randomly painted them all in post to vary them even more. Cheers,
wow.. nice really nice... I guess you use a lot of proxies and did you use Net Render or Distributing rendering ? cheers
You're welcome Alex!! I have just felt compelled! Regards Jamie http://jamiecardoso-mentalray.blogspot.com/

Love the detail you've put into this image. You can even see groups of people here and there. Lighting and artistic post production is very nice too. Large scale aerial images are not easy to accomplish and you've done it Alex. Congrats!
cheers! glad you noticed the people as well. they don't show up much at all at this res but they're there :) thanks again
