Arc House - http://www.archouse.co.uk
The narrative of the image is that an old house stands abandoned, alone in the city. This house once stood proudly amongst dozens of other grand buildings, each one grander than the next. These houses would have been built using the finest materials and constructed by the finest craftspeople. The city was once prosperous and the people were rich and lived a luxurious lifestyle. During the daytime these streets were clean and busy with commuters in cars and pedestrians heading to the city. The evenings would be filled with the sound of dinner parties and music. These glory days have since past, the city has fallen into a deep decline of which there is no escape. The rich people that occupied the city left generations ago, along with the neighbourhoods. The only thing left were the houses that were left behind, abandoned. These grand buildings have been left to rot, many have been burnt down and others have been left to collapse. Only a few still stand amongst the rubble, unkempt along the cracked streets.
This image focuses on just one of the houses that have been left to stand alone. The neighbouring houses have been torn down or have eventually succumb to decay and collapsed. The house stands on its own plot of land surrounded by a barren landscape where the other houses once stood. The area has become untamed and is no longer maintained. The road outside the house is cracked with pot holes. The pavement has been torn up with missing and chipped tiles. The front lawn of the house has died. The grounds surrounding the house are littered with rubbish and fly tipping. The fly tipping consists of old tires, scraps of wood and plastic. Debris that has fallen from the now decaying house litters the grounds its grounds. This debris consists of bricks; mortar; shards of glass and roof tiles. In the distance silhouettes of of the city centre can be seen in the distance as the Abandoned House stands alone.
