The Chola Dynasty
The Cholas were one of the most powerful Tamil kingdoms in medieval southern India
They ruled a significantly larger area at the height of their power from the 9th to 13th century and left a lasting impact on the political, social, and cultural landscape of South India.
The Chola Dynasty is notable for its temple architecture. The fortress-like Peruvudaiyar temple is an exemplary piece dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva in the modern-Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The temple was completed circa 1010 CE under the reign of Rajaraja Chola and is so large it can be seen from great distances.
