That's a good approach, I've used that technique on a few occasions. The more time you can save on rendering, the better.
Occasionally, but if I can avoid it I just use zdepth as a mask for a Gaussian blur to save on render time. It usually can get the job done.
Do you use the DOF within your 3D app instead?
Ok, it was just confusing me a little and I wandered if it had rendered that way.
Hi Zack, the DOF was created in photoshop using a gaussian blur.
