The fort Duke of Braganza is a historic fortress that lies on the islet of Sal Rei, on the island of Boa Vista, in Cape Verde. It was built in 1818 to protect the port and the island from the attacks of pirates and corsairs. The fort is named after the Duke of Braganza, who was the regent of the kingdom of Portugal at the time. Today the fort is in ruins, but it still preserves the memory of a glorious and challenging past.
