This image was created after being inspired by the incredible photography of Nick Kwan, and the Raven and the Last Men sculpture by Canadian sculptor Bill Reid. Inspired by 19th-century Haida Gwaii sculptor Charles Eden, Reid created an incredible installation inside this beautiful room designed by Arthur Erickson Architects to depict the story of the Raven coaxing the first Haida peoples into the world. I felt compelled to let my mind wander and wonder how the story ends. This is my representation of the last men, what humans have eventually evolved into. Have we siphoned off all nature has to offer?
A special thank you to the Haida Gwaii peoples, and all Indigenous peoples for the inspiration of this image through their incredible culture, story telling, and art.
Also a special thanks to Lukas Walzer for his awesome critique and help with the process. Additional shout-outs to Ash Thorp and Maciej Kuciara for their amazing podcasts and all of their awesome guests for inspiring me while working (many of them made it into the computer screens as easter eggs).
A big project breakdown highlighting breakthroughs, workflow, and failures coming soon!
