Although there is still great design being done in movies (Synechdoche, New York comes to mind), it is often inspired by the greats (look at X-Men First class for example). So I wanted to look back to some of my personal favourites and rebuild them in the computer, to walk around in them, enjoy them and to study what made them so great.
This resulted in a small series called 'Rear Window' (which hopefully will expand over the years to come as time allows), in wich I remade sets from 'Rear Window', 'Dr. Strangelove', 'Brazil' and 'Gattaca'. Sometimes it's a copy, sometimes it shows these familiar sets in a new perspective. I hope these homages will find a bigger audience, to celebrate the design and architecture of old(er) films and to show why I love them. I believe that if some of these movie architects ever constructed 'real' buildings, they would be named among the great architects of their times.
