I totally understand...time constraints lead to many things not turning out the way we'd like them to be. The sort of solutions you mentioned are good enough for clients - but for anyone working in 3D most of the times such solutions come up a little short.

Yes - ideally if I would have had the time the backs of the letters would have been light objects.
Because of time constraints I just selected the letters via the wirecolor element - made a copy - took the lower layer and made it white and applied a gaussian blur. It was good enough for my client but I have to go back and do it correctly.

Really like this one. Just took a look at your work and the language is really interesting. It's a very nice use of Photoshop to add ambience and "life" to your images.
One thing I'd point in this one tough: Shouldn't the lights behind those letters above the entry brighten up the space around them (i.e the ceiling, wall, etc.)?
