Hey - thanks for sharing. It's great that you're going to be cutting out all those different format intermediate steps. Since he's saying the architecture evolves from the inside out - are you doing any interior shots? It would be interesting to see overhead axons in different layers showing the spatial organization.
Yeah, I'm excited to eliminate some of those steps. SpeedMud seemed a bit slow on my MacBook Pro, but I've shifted all my workflow over to my MacPro, which will hopefully be much smoother. Bart certainly works from the inside out, addressing structure and space in tandem (from what I can tell). We talked briefly about a few interior shots, but never ended up going that route. I'll see if it's ok to post a few more renders in iso/axon! Any thoughts on improving? Composition? I realize I should vary the foliage a bit more, but I recently graduated, so upgrading to professional licenses is an expensive and cumbersome process. I'm looking forward to adding the VRay HQ Plant collection and some Red Giant Photoshop plugins soon!!

siliconbauhaus: I understand what you mean. Though, I'm not too sure how difficult it would be to model his work without a direct interface with him. He was able to answer a lot of questions for me, since the complexity of his work makes it difficult to understand his houses from 3 or 4 drawings (i.e. pulling from a book). We don't have much good architecture here in Albuquerque, so I consider it a combination of luck and hard work (mostly the former) that I've been able to do some work with him (he's one of the few gems we have). I have another unbuilt project coming up that I'll hopefully be able to share in the next month or two. heni30: The project is a private residential addition for a client who already has a Prince addition on the front half of the house. I don't believe that first addition was ever published, at least not in any of his books. As I understand it, the client wanted to keep the wall in the back, so this addition rises over and beyond it. Honestly, I'm not too sure how much I'm allowed to share, so I'll leave it at that for the moment. The process was more of an experiment for me. A previous, confidential project was started in Bonzai 3D, but I was unhappy in the end with how the geometry was exported to Cinema 4D (normals were inverted, phong tags were ridiculous, and the overall geometry would come in to Cinema at odd angles, so the "cleaning" time wasn't worth it for me). This time I decided to start in Cinema. I was provided CAD files, which I pulled in to Vectorworks. From there I used a layer that was dedicated for cleaning up and exporting splines. I'd close my polys and export them into Cinema and scale them. From there I'd build up the geometry in Cinema. If you're familiar with Bart's work, there are many complex intricacies that are difficult to model. I've found that while Cinema gives you tremendous freedom, precision can be an issue. For this project I found it best to draw the difficult geometry in Vectorworks and then pull it into Cinema for extrusion. This is mainly due to the way C4D handles drawing (I've purchased SpeedMud and may try it on this next project). I tried to leave as little to texturing tricks as possible, so the corrugated siding is all geometry (perhaps I could have baked a displacement, but hey). The split-face CMU is a displacement map, made up of layered noise channels and a jpeg. I was at the tail end of this project when I decided to purchase VRay, then port all the textures over. It wasn't quite as easy as I had hoped, but ended up being pretty straight forward. The main adjustment for me was the lighting. I'm certainly not used to setting one light and placing a camera (AR3 I've ended up using much more complex lighting rigs). But I'm excited for the next one, starting ground up texturing in VRay! Does that shed some light?

Interesting....I've not seen anyone do a Prince design and I'm now pissed at myself for not thinking of it.
Would definitely like hear more about the project AND the process. Which part is the addition?
