you can control your spline mapping in the tiling of the material. Once you get the Unwrap UVW on there and select faces, spline map, Pick spline, planar, fit, and hit apply, you can control the size of the map by tiling it more in your material editor. The spline map usually starts out stretched and too big so I think will solve your problem. Good Luck, you chair is looking good.
