The concept for our rendering was to pay homage to the original painting in terms of the nostalgic feel and reference to a time gone by of the Great Depression in New York City, while introducing a feeling of hope, whimsy, and fantasy.
When Hopper painted Early Sunday Morning, he captured the feel and mood of the time using architecture and light. This image subtly implies that the small-time shopkeeper, the symbol of the individual and the early nineteenth-century American ideal, is in conflict with larger, less clearly defined forces of the future. Our image tries to embody a somewhat majestic hope to fight these forces.
