Lake house is a test to measure 3ds Max and V-Ray as architectural design tools in terms of time, workflow, adaptiveness to changes and precission, using state of the art techniques in modeling, shading, mapping, rendering and compositing.
The house was modeled out of the blue in 5 days and the landscape in another 2, including vegetation. Finishes were decided as final after another 7 days of trial and error, and the scene was staged in 1 additional day. 15 days in total for a design from scratch.
The following plugins were used: Floor generator, Forest Pack Pro, Autograss and Railclone. Everything was modeled exclusively for the scene except trees and the boat, which were taken from Evermotion collections.
Curtains were modeled using Reactor.
Masks were used for tree and grass distribution, and for the wet soil fading line in the ground shader (Blend material).
For manageability, the scene was divided in two separate ones: the house and the environment, and put back together using Xref Scene tool, adding only camera and lights.
The following V-Ray render elements were used for compositing and tweaking: RGB color, Background, Material ID, Reflection, Refraction and ZDepth.
