In Ukraine, the violence of war has turned schools into rubble, and playgrounds into dust. Every day, childhood homes are destroyed. We see the images of this destruction in the news. They play on a constant loop. Yet, these images only show us the physical destruction of a country, while we must also be aware of the emotional damage suffered by the people in it. Displaced and disconnected from their everyday lives, the children of Ukraine wait, uncertain of their future. Yet, who else, if not them, will rebuild and reimagine the wreckage of today? Only in the mind of a child can the horrors of war be washed clean, and this power lies in their creativity. It must be protected at all costs. And so, as they wait, we must act, in order to secure for them the blocks from which to build a new future.
