Hi there,

Don't know what happened, but Friday wasn't able to post, hopefully this time.

Finally I have finished off a “little” (that ended up not being so little) personal project.
It’s a tribute to my infancy and all the Sci-Fi movies I watched and adore to this day, be it Blade Runner, Star Wars or the even later Prometheus (there’s a little homenage in there if you can find it and a couple of other references to other things that have influenced my life, London etc).

The visual aspect of these filmes have stayed in my mind, even throughout all my architectural course. I wanted to create a world that was halfway between something earth like and outer earth. The initial working title I think explains the work best. It was initially called “Exploration”, of both the storey line and the techniques involved, thus turning into a more suiting “Exploitation”, which reflects a little of what goes on in the world today with natural resources/mining and ecological factores.

I’ve been longing to create something of this genre for quite a while, as I wanted to explore further the connection between 3D and matte painting. Also trying something I don’t usually have the opportunity to try, exploiting a cold, uncomfortable climat. I became quite interested in matte painting after working at Vyonyx, they really showed me a new way to look at things, so a big thanks to all.

Concept:

Research units have been created to provide access to some of the worlds most remote locations. They are airlifted into place and stay for a short time before being air lifted out. This coupled with their design enables minimal impact on the environment.
This image illustrates a unit located in an otherwise inaccessible location and the crew benefit from the earth doing what it does best.

this is a visualization of a beautiful mosque in Shiraz / Iran , called "Nasir al molk "

my grand father's dad was one of its tile artists
and I decided to create it for Evermotion's interior competition
Unfortunately it didn't reach the dead line and i had to post my best until that moment
But with support of 1038 people that voted to my work i could have the 4th place

After the competition I couldn't stop myself working on it
I released an earlier version of it called "Nasir al molk mosque (final version) one month after the competition deadline

with all of the comments and critiques of users i decided to work on it so much more

So I created a reflection variation and glossiness map for the ground and also I have painted so many textures and dirts all around

This piece is a revision of a commercial piece I did a few months ago. I spent about 2 or 3 days on it total. I wanted to push the coloring and atmosphere into the realm of surreal. I really enjoy working on natural scenes in 3d. Something about the challenge of recreating nature with the generally rigid tools of 3D art is fun to me.

There are some parts of the image I would change if I went back, but generally I'm fairly happy with it. C&C always welcome. Anyway, hope you enjoy it!

This piece is the product of a mix of techniques, first 3dmax2012 and zbrush for the trees, the branches where created with the modelling tools from 3dmax2012. Grass is multiscatter and the grass on the trees is multipainter.
The postproduction is a mix from photoshop and after effects, wich we are using more and more.
