VizReimaginationVenture-Fourth Mile By Benoy
In 2022, Benoy was responsible for the design of the Fourth Mile project, located near the M4 motorway, a critical route in and out of London. The project aims to create an integrated technology showcase, featuring innovative future mobility and transportation technologies such as electric vehicles and autonomous driving.
🏠 Fourth Mile includes 234 apartments, a 197-room hotel, a new city square, and 95,000 square feet of leisure, retail, and dining space. Of the 234 apartments, 40% are affordable housing, meeting the local housing demand. The design emphasizes sustainability, incorporating low-carbon technologies such as on-site microgeneration, solar panels, and electric vehicle charging stations. Additionally, the project includes a £3.2 million donation to improve nearby Gunnersbury and Kew Bridge stations, as well as enhancements to local bus services and other sustainable travel measures.
Our team reinterpreted the visualizations to showcase the adaptability of the Fourth Mile project under different seasons and weather conditions. Given the UK's variable climate, particularly the frequent damp and overcast days, we chose a cloudy day effect for P2. The design ensures that the space remains bright and comfortable even on cloudy days, with soft natural light and light-colored canopies over small stalls. For P3, despite the short daylight hours in winter, we aimed to create a warm and vibrant winter atmosphere by reflecting ample sunlight through glass facades.
The project has been approved and construction has begun, but due to its complexity and scale, full completion may take some time.
